New York: ELECTRIC LADYLAND

This is an awesome line-up. I hope it's not too late for those who live in or near New York to attend it! Lots of opportunities to mingle and learn.

The SAWCC Litfest Committee Invites You To ELECTRIC LADYLAND

The South Asian Women's Creative Collective (SAWCC) and The New School University invite you to Electric Ladyland, SAWCC's fifth annual literary event. This two-day series of readings, panels and workshops features South Asians writing literature that is personal, political, and popular.

As pop culture and politics intersect, literature provides an avenue for women to find their groove. This festival explores the electricity of South Asians writing in a different time, in different ways--through the lenses of music, food, the Internet, politics, criticism, poetry and fiction. Electric Ladyland will provide an opportunity for these works to converge and spark new dialogue.

Friday, November 2nd, 7pm
The Mashup Reading

Electric Ladyland's kickoff reading! In Creole, "to mash up" means to destroy. In music, "to mash up" means to splice the best bits of existing songs into entirely new pieces. In literature, "to mash up" means... well, maybe a little bit of both? Or something entirely different? South Asian women writers read from works that blend literary traditions and their influences from popular media.

Featuring readings by Sita Bhaskar, Roohi Choudhry, V.V. Ganeshananthan, Sheba Karim, Keshni Kashyap , Yesha Naik, Nina Sharma, Marian Thambynayagam.
