Bombay Meri Jaan (Not In a Book)
If you have to pick a city to turn upside down to reveal its inner workings, it would have to be Mumbai, wouldn't it?
Here’s an article by Ilija Trojanow where he highlights three books centered in Mumbai:
- Suketu Mehta's “Maximum City”
- Vikram Chandra's “Sacred Games”
- Altaf Tyrewala's “No God in Sight”
However, Trojanow feels that Mumbai is too overpowering to even write about and says it was a "foolhardy attempt" for these writers to try.
I suppose it's like trying to capture the ocean in a bucket. You can try and while you may not succeed, at least those in the desert will be grateful to you for the bucket you did bring.
