Of Water, Memoirs and Film Making - A Mother & Daughter Duo
As Water releases nationwide in the US in April 2006, there is a close kin of Deepa Mehta who is also being touched by fame - her daughter Devyani Saltzman. Devyani Saltzman has just written a memoir (also released in April 2006), described as A Memoir of Second Chances, Family, and Filmmaking, that is getting rave reviews galore. As examples, try One, Two, Three etc.
Sources have it that Deepa Mehta's movie "Water" was not only a chance to finish her trilogy (Fire & Earth earlier) but an opportunity to bond with her estranged daughter too. A mother and daughter, seperated by divoce when the daughter was only 11 and chose to live on with her father, got the opportunity to find common ground again when Devyani Saltzman worked as one of the camera operators in the making of Water.
There is also a good Afterword in the book by Deepa Mehta.
We wish the mother-daughter duo good luck while we rummage around for the memoir- it really does look promising.
