I am a New York based Iranian artist working with Hindu sculpture as the inspiration for my newest paintings. I find that Hindu mythology contains an energy and eroticism that is unparalleled. The colors and the fluid forms are unbridled and sensual. As a Persian raised in America, I have always been searching for my own mythology which is reflected over and over again in my work. I take existing gods from varied cultures and reconfigure them to create my own "spirits." Much like the great Indian gods and goddesses, my figures can float or detach their limbs, they can fly and defy the laws of physics. They recreate the basic trials of the human condition such as love, war, trauma, and faith. In essence they do what the great religions of the world do, which is make sense out of life.
