What started as a hobby grew into a passion and finally turned into a profession. The practice of various techniques finally paid off, as it got me my first job at a prestigious publication house. Then advertising caught my attention and I decided to make a career of it. My first break in advertising came in 1987. I've been working on a series of paintings with "bull" as a subject. What I like in the bull is its power, as well as innocent looks. The bull is a part of our culture, a close associate of human beings, God Shiva, and Goddess Durga. In India, there are so many festivals where the bull plays an intrinsic part.

Prior to this, I was exploring a series on islands, inspired by the mystique and beauty of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. I still retain the experience in my mind.

Painting for me is a never-ending quest. It is continuous, ever evolving. It took several years to arrive at the style of my own, where I use almost transparent colors and generally avoid white, letting the canvas provide this element. This gives my painting a pure and fresh look as well as contrast.

I see art as a medium to express in a different perspective, one that provokes the viewer to see things in a new light, evoking delight in an unexpected interpretation. My imagery is drawn from everyday things and situations that are typical of the vast diversity of the Indian landscape. Art, I feel, should be a participatory experience and belong to the vernacular, so that it is easily accessible and can be enjoyed by people.
