Staff Biographies

Sumita Sheth, Executive Editor

Terrified of fish and thus unwilling to go into oceans and lakes, Sumita Sheth writes, reads, dances, paints, and sings (albeit mostly off-tune) around New York City as well as wherever else she finds herself. Having lived in too many cities, across too many continents in the past, she is now just happy to call the multi-cultural hub of New York, home. Her work has appeared in Thereby Hangs a Tale, Bookslut, and EGO. Otherwise, Sumita is actively involved in volunteer work, blogging, and the editing of Desilit Magazine and EGO.

Sunanda Mongia, Managing Editor

Sunanda Mongia is currently on leave from her university in India and is research associate at York University, Toronto. She is a freelance editor and is an empanelled editor of Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. She edits academic, business and marketing material, newsletters and general writing and, most of all, absolutely enjoys editing South Asian fiction. Inevitably, she writes and publishes poetry, fiction and tries to write academic books, articles and reviews that are not too mind-numbing.

Soumya Sundaresh, Associate Editor

Soumya Sundaresh is a Los Angeles based artist, activist and dancer. She is trained in Bharatanatyam and is company member of Malathi Iyengar's Rangoli Dance Company since 1998. She has performed with, among other Los Angeles based artists, Shyamala Moorty, Mita Ghosal, and Anne Nguyen. She also trains with Laura Mazur and Anne Nguyen for ballet and is a self taught painter. Soumya works for ArtWallah's public relation department and is the coordinator of their mentorship program (YouthWallah) which is on it's third year of programming. She has been affiliated with other organizations such as Outfest and Women's Image Network for outreach and public relations. She holds a B.A. in Communication Studies with a minor in Women Studies.

Mary Anne Mohanraj, Consulting Editor

Mary Anne Mohanraj is the author of BODIES IN MOTION, a set of Sri Lankan-American linked stories, covering two families and three generations (HarperCollins). She teaches fiction at Vermont College and Roosevelt University, and is working on a follow-up book, THE ARRANGEMENT, a contemporary threesome novel. Mohanraj recently received an Illinois Arts Council Fellowship. She currently serves as the Executive Director of DesiLit (www.desilit.org), an organization that works to support S. Asian and diaspora literature, and also directs the Speculative Literature Foundation. Mohanraj was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Bushra Rehman, Humor Editor

Bushra is a Pakistani from Queens, NYC. She is co-editor of Colonize This! Young Women of Color on Today's Feminism (Seal Press) and author of Marianna's Beauty Salon. Bushra travels around the country, reading poems and telling jokes and stories. She's been featured in The New York Times and NY Newsday. Her work has appeared in ColorLines, Mizna, Curve, SAMAR, Bottomfish and Voices of Resistance: Muslim Women Write War, Faith, Sexuality (Seal Press). Radha, Webmaster

Radha is a Bombayite who is presently living in Chicago, IL. She shares her studio apartment with two cats who dote on her. She has a Masters degree in Computer Engineering from Drexel University, Philadelphia. Radha works full time as a technical consultant. Kaolin Fire, Webmaster

Kaolin Fire owns a small web development company, and has a degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley. He bounced around the .com boom and bust in San Francisco, and learned a lot about both web development and business development. He has been writing for most of his life, was one of the Senior Editors of NFG, and is one of the Chief Instigators of Greatest Uncommon Denominator Magazine. His work has appeared or will soon appear in Strange Horizons, Right Hand Pointing, and Bewildering Stories. In his dwindling spare time, he also runs Imaginaries and Writer's Planner, and he's trying to learn to draw.
