About Us

DesiLit Magazine, an online journal of South Asian writing and art, is currently accepting artist's online portfolios. We are seeking original and innovative works that capture the essence of South Asia or its diaspora, as well as pieces inspired by South Asia.

What We Want

As a visiting artist or an inhabitant what excites you about South Asia? The colors, the landscape, the people? The noise, the peace, the religions? The stories which walk with you along every street or look you in the face at every traffic stop?

We will publish portfolios of artists in DesiLit. Photography, painting, digital works as well as interesting documentation of site-specific installation art, ritualistic and experimental art projects are all welcome. We are also interested in original, imaginative illustrations to feature along with the literary works that we publish. We cannot pay for your art work at this time but hope that we can help you get publicity for your work and online art gallery.

How to Submit

To submit, send your submissions in the body of an email (no attachments, please) to art@desilit.org. For the subject line of your email please use the following subject line: Submission Art: [Your Name]. Submissions of 3-5 images (JPG format, maximum file size - 500K) are acceptable but URL submissions are preferred. Please include your complete contact information, your artist's statement, and a short bio including previous publications and/or exhibitions if applicable.

We will try to acknowledge every submission, but we will surely get in touch with you within two months if we decide to use your work. Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis, and the editorial board reserves sole discretion to choose publication date. All submissions must be original and your own work. All editing and publication decisions are made by a collective editorial board.
